Lord Adair Turner - Chairman, Governing Board, Former Chairman, United Kingdom Financial Services Authority

Adair Turner has combined careers in business, public policy and academia. He became Chairman of the UK Financial Services Authority as the financial crisis broke in September 2008, and played a leading role in the redesign of the global banking and shadow banking regulation as Chairman of the International Financial Stability Board’s major policy committee. He became a Senior Fellow of the Institute for New Economic Thinking in 2013, and Chairman of their Governing Board in 2015. Also in 2015 he joined the board of UK start up bank OakNorth, and he is a Trustee and Chair of the Audit Committee at the British Museum since 2013. He is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Financial Studies in Frankfurt, and as of recently, Visiting Fellow at the People’s Bank of China School of Finance, Tsighua University (Beijing); and Visiting Professor at the International Center for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) in Kuala Lumpur, as well as holding Visiting Professorships at the London School of Economics, Cass Business School, and City University.

Prior to 2008 Lord Turner was a non-executive Director at a number of companies, including Standard Chartered Bank (2006-2008); Vice-Chairman of Merrill Lynch Europe (2000-2006); and was with McKinsey & Co. from 1982 to 1995. Adair became a cross-bench member of the House of Lords in 2005 and was the Chairman of the Climate Change Committee from 2008 to 2012; he also chaired the Pensions Commission from 2003 to 2006, and the Low Pay Commission from 2002 to 2006, and from 1995-1999 was the Director General of the Confederation of British Industry. He is the author of 'Just Capital – The Liberal Economy' (Macmillan, 2001), and ‘Economics after the Crisis, (MIT Press, 2012). His new book, Between Debt and the Devil: Money, Credit and Fixing Global Finance, will be published by Princeton University Press in the autumn 2015. Lord Turner studied History and Economics at Caius College, Cambridge.

Prof Dr Abbas Mirakhor - First Holder INCEIF Chair of Islamic Finance

Prof Abbas Mirakhor is the First Holder of the INCEIF Chair of Islamic Finance since 2010. A former Executive Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and acknowledged worldwide as a specialist in Islamic Finance, he joins INCEIF following a distinguished career as an economist and academician with considerable contribution in the field of Islamic economics, finance and banking.

He is a graduate of the Kansas State University, USA, where he received his Bachelor, Master and PhD degrees in Economics. With the exception of a 2-year stint at the AzZahara University in Tehran, Iran, throughout his academic career, he has worked as a Professor of Economics at the University of Alabama, Alabama A&M University, and the Florida Institute of Technology. He spent 24 years with IMF, serving as the organisation’s Executive Director and Dean of the Executive Board, retiring in 2008. He was conferred the “Order of Companion of Volta” for service to Ghana by the President of Ghana by the President of Ghana in 2005. In 2003, he received the Islamic Development Bank Annual Prize for Research in Islamic Economics, which he shared with Dr Mohsin Khan, another well-known economist at IMF. The President of Pakistan conferred him the “Quaid-e Azam” star for service to Pakistan in 1997.

Mr Mohamed Izam Mohamed Yusof - CEO, IAP Integrated Sdn Bhd

Mohamed Izam Mohamed Yusof, the Chief Executive Officer of IAP Integrated (IAP), graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting with Finance (Honours) from University of East London, England. He began his career as a junior auditor for Ernst & Young before starting his work with Tabung Haji subsidiaries - TH Technologies and TH Global Services for 17 years. He worked his way to become the CEO of TH Global Services working on Halal food business. Thereafter, he has served as CEO of Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS is a faith-based organisation) under Majlis Agama Islam Selangor. During his time with LZS, he has developed, managed and achieved in the transformation plan and diligently executed until the collection of zakat RM582 million and has distributed RM595 million in year 2014.
